Vicar General of the Center of Communion and Participation of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, in charge of the religious communities, lay movements and the initial and ongoing formation of the diocesan priests. Before he was consecrated as bishop, Mons. Ali Herrera was parish priest in San José de Calasanz Church, and also in the Maronite rite parish of Our Lady of Lebanon (Nuestra Señora del Líbano) of the Archdiocese of Bogotá.
He was the Director of the Psychological Orientation Area for the Conciliar Seminary of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, (2007 - 2015). Together with a team of two psychologists and a social worker, Mons. Ali Herrera was in charge of all the human-community formation of seminarians.
He was also professor of Psychology of Human Development, Social Psychology and Pastoral Psychology in the Conciliar Seminary. Mons. Ali Herrera was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, in 1967. He entered into the Conciliar Seminary of Bogotá and was ordained to the priesthood in 1992.
After graduating in Theology from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogotá (2003) he obtained a degree in Psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome (2007). As a young priest, Mons. Ali Herrera was appointed pastor for the church of San Clemente Mártir and Santos Angeles Custodios in Bogotá, and chaplain of the National University of Colombia, standing out for his work in the youth and pastoral care in universities (1994-2001).
He is titular professor at the Summer Formation School in his country, acting as director (2009 - 2013). Mons. Ali Herrera has been invited on numerous occasions as a guest speaker at different diocesan and religious seminaries, in his country and throughout Latin-America, offering update courses for educators of philosophical and theological cycles, and as a preacher of spiritual retreats for priests and seminarians. He is a “Senior Associate” of the "Colegio Colombiano de Psicólogos” (Colombian School of Psychologists).
He was in charge of the formation of future ordained ministries in the Conciliar Seminary of his Archdiocese, as an educator, professor and therapist (2002 - 2015). On 17 December 2014, he was appointed a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors. On 7 November 2015, Pope Francis appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, and Titular Bishop of Giubalziana. His Episcopal consecration took place on 12 December 2015, in Bogotá cathedral.
